Abudu – A non-governmental organisation, under the aegis of Abudu Diaspora Group (ADG) said it would commence the second phase installations of solar streetlights at Abudu, administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state soon.

The group which had earlier installed about 250 solar streetlights across Abudu in January said it intends to reach out to areas in the community that are yet to benefit from the project.

A leader of the group, Eghosa-Kings Igbinoghodua who made this know to our correspondent recently via a telephone chat said, “we want to ensure it (solar streetlights) goes round to the people. Also, there are some of the installations done on wooden poles; we plan to change them with concrete poles.”

Igbinoghodua maintained that, apart from the solar streetlighting, the group would support health centers in the community, to boost healthcare delivery.

According to Igbinoghodua, healthcare is a huge challenge in Nigeria, hence they plan to render the needed assistance to the medical facilities.

Igbinoghodua who disclosed that the Abudu diaspora group has commenced formal registration with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) dissociated the group from ‘Abudu G.R.A project’.

“Some people in this group are trying to get land from Abudu elders which they say they are going to build as G.R.A, we are not part of the group, because we told them not to do it”, he said

However, initiator of the GRA project, Godwin Igho-oga Imafidon explained that the project is targeted at developing a ‘GRA’ at Abudu towards the realization of ‘Abudu must move forward’ development slogan.

“the project will serve the housing interest of “all Abudu indigenes both at home and in diaspora and also serve our neighboring communities of Evbuobanosa, Evbohen, Iru, Oza, Ogan, Iguiya etc and indeed every Orhionmwon indigene who will like to live away from the hustles and bristles of the city while taking advantage of Abudu proximity to Benin and the Express highway, while at the same time encouraging urban rural drift”, Imafidon stated

He added that Abudu diaspora group and the Abudu GRA project group were formed for the overall development of Abudu having realized the need to give back to the community where members were born and raised.

It is expected that the Abudu diasporans come together under one umbrella to forge a common front, as the various projects embarked on would be for the development of Abudu, and by extension Orhionmwon.
