1. To my mind, we need to be far away from the ungodly because they hate the word of God and His works. They rebel against God and against his instructions and laws. They are truly in enmity with God. Consequent upon the unruly hearts of the ungodly, they have every now and then faced the wrath of God: “for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men…” Rom1:18
No one in history has been able to withstand the wrath of God. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of their ungodly ways of life: “Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.” Gen. 19:24-25. The entire cities with their lands were destroyed.
But the ungodly that repents truly has a way out. There is pardon for him. Nineveh repented; their hearts became softened to receive the word that Jonah brought from God.
It is greatly astonishing to note that not only the people of Nineveh and their king went into fasting but also their animals: “But let man and beast be covered with sack cloth and cry mightily unto God: yea let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.” Jonah 3:8
2. Do we still have people in our nation who still continue in their evil ways? Do we still have in our nation those who are violent like the armed robbers, assassins, kidnappers, bokoharams and hired killers?
If so, there is need for the ungodly in Nigeria to repent or else the wrath of God would descend heavily on them. Certainly, such ungodly people who refuse to repent, have the sword of Damocles hanging over them with impending doom, doom that is worse than that of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Be far away from the way of the ungodly. Sadly, the ungodly are still recruiting. Would you allow yourself to be recruited into their bands? Would you allow the love of money to make you be in union with the ungodly? Sadly enough in our institutions of learning, in our higher institutions of learning, many ungodly ones are still secretly recruiting in their different cultic groups
3. The ungodly ones have another name unknown to them. They are children of the devil: “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44.
You have to be far away from the ungodly because they fabricate lies and stories to make you believe their evil work and draw you from the way of God. To be called a murderer is similar to hired killer or hired assassin. See again how the ungodly is described: “…O full of all subtlety and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?” Act 13:10that was a sorcerer, who attempted to prevent the world of God when Paul was preaching. So the ungodly are always opposing those preaching the gospel of Christ.
4. God has never ceased calling the sinners to repent. The ungodly should heed: “Come now and let us reason together, saith the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow: though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18.
The forgiveness of sin is certain for those who will repent: “ If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1John1:9. The Lord Jesus came that sinners might repent. Why should you stick to the ways of the ungodly people? Their promises of the things of this world only last for a short while. Therefore forsake the ways of the ungodly and hurry to obtain salvation from Christ, for in him alone can you obtain salvation: “Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be save.” Act 4:12. So as we keep our distance from the ungodly ones and their evil ways and keep on praying for their repentance.
