Today is World Optometry Day set aside by the world health organization in conjunction with the world Council of Optometry to celebrate Optometrists and the services they render worldwide.
The Optometrists are a group of educated, efficient, patient workers with rules regulated by laws, gentle people who render qualitative/effective eye services to people with visual disturbance/anomalies; they are often the first point of call globally to sufferers and referred to as “PHYSICIANS OF THE EYE” and primary eye care givers.
PROUD TO BE AN OPTOMETRIST.
Optometry is a health care profession, and optometrists are primary health care practitioners of the eye, who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes:
• Measuring refractive errors
• Prescribing glasses, contact lenses and low vision aids
• Early detection/diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system
• Providing non-surgical intervention for specific binocular vision problems like squint
Optometrists offer counseling services on preventive eye and vision care and collaborate with other health disciplines including ophthalmology, neurology, internal medicine and other health sciences.
Over 1000+ optometrists have involved themselves in community service.

THE WORLD OPTOMETRY DAY IS CELEBERATED EVERY YEAR, 23 OF MARCH
GOVERNMENT CREATION OF HARMONY AMONGST EYE & HEALTH CARE GIVERS.
This Present state government created a unique tremendous understanding and permitting harmony of different eye care givers in the eye industry that called for a standing ovation and a sounding salute to the ambassador of the eye even when these Profession belongs to different regulatory bodies, The Optometrists, The Opthalmologist and the Opthalmic Nurses.
It is very hopeful that in line with the Bamako initiative (African Head of States Meeting) this present administration known for good governance/mega programs/projects will properly include optometrist as primary eye care givers into primary health care system, allow the existence of the directorate Optometry office in its Ministry as in the federal government of Nigeria ministry of health that was once adopted by the Edo state government in year 2000. The effect will be moving quality eye care services to where people live and work that in turn will redress ocular morbidity and mortality, thereby prolonging good eye sight to the people living in Edo State,
