BENIN CITY – The Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Eloghosa Obarisiagbon has called on the general public to go out en-masse and partake in the ongoing second dose of COVID-19 vaccination exercise for maximum protection against the virus

She made the call in Benin City at an emergency meeting with the Disease Control and Immunization Department of the Agency

The meeting was conveyed to fashion out ways of ensuring maximum protection of Edo people against COVID-19

According to Dr. Eloghosa, receiving the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine would not only boost the immune system, but also provides long lasting immunity.

She said that the first dose of the vaccine primes the immune system, alerts it of the presence of the virus in the human body and also creates an antibody response.

“The second dose acts as a booster to ensure immunity is long lasting. ”

Dr. Eloghosa expressed the need for the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination to be passed across Local Government Areas so that everyone who received the first dose of the vaccine can receive their second dose.

She urged the State Health Educator, Mrs Irene Uabor to intensify campaign for adequate information on behavioral and attitudinal change towards receiving the second dose of the vaccination.

According to her, Edo State has recorded an improvement in the number of persons that are fully vaccinated and the number of persons that are partially vaccinated.
