Sen. Obinna Ogba has urged agencies of government to deliberately vote adequate fund for sporting activities,given the importance of sport in promotion of healthy living.
Ogba made the call in an interview with Journalists.
Ogba, who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Sport and a member of Agriculture Committee was reacting to small allocation of fund for sporting activities by an agencies in agricultural sector.
Ogba said the fund voted for sports development and activities by some of the agencies was not commensurate to what was required for sporting activities especially for the youths.
“Yes, I spoke about it because the budget of some of the agencies on sport is nothing to write home about.
“for exmple one of the agency budgeted N27,000 for sporting activities.
“What is N27,000 going to do for sport, you know this sport is purely for Nigeria youths, and so I encourage them to vote money in sports development, sports is health.
“And every body is involved in sport, no matter the age.
“An ordinary sporting canvas, N27,000 can not even buy it” Ogba said.
Speaking on the 2023 budget, Ogba said his concern was on the implementation to impact the masses positively.
“The budget is not different from what we use to see, but how does this budget impact the lives of the masses.
“The implementation of the budget, is key and so they must make frantic efforts to implement it.”
