Comrade Phillip Shuaib, the deputy governor of Edo State, has flagged off the Polio 2nd round immmunisation today. This is in line with the announcement made yesterday that the state would commence polio immmunisation on January 21 and will run through January 24.

“As we continue to prioritize the good health of our people, especially the children, I flagged off the Polio Second Round Outbreak Response Virus exercise at Iwogban Primary Healthcare Centre in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area,” Comrade Shuaib announced on his Twitter handle.

The Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, said yesterday that vaccination would commence on Saturday the 21st of January and would end on Tuesday 24th January, 2023 in all the 18 LGAs of the state.

According to him, vaccinators will move from house to house to administer 2 drops of oral polio vaccine to children aged 0-59 months of age, adding that administration with the vaccine is not harmful, but will improve the wellbeing of the children.

Poliomyelitis (polio) as a highly infectious viral disease that primarily affects children under the age of 5 and can be spread through food and water contaminated with faeces of an infected person.
