ESAN CENTRAL: At least one person was shot to death and several others injured during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally at Ewu Community in Esan Central local government area of Edo State on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
It was gathered that the tragedy which occurred in ward 7, forced the PDP to suspended its campaign rally at the Edo Central Senatorial District. The party’s campaign director for the local government, Anselm Ojezua, confirmed this in a statement made available to Journalists in Benin City.
Gunmen were said to have stormed the rally and shot sporadically. The campaign director stated that injured have been hospitalised. He added that the bloody incident has been reported to the police.
Ojezua, the former Edo State chairman of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) defected to the PDP with Governor Godwin Obaseki during the run up to the 2020 governorship election in the state, added that the party awaits police thorough investigation into the incident.
Attempt to obtain comments from the Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command SP Chidi Nwabuzor failed.
