A married woman in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State, Malama Khadija, who dissolved her marriage to marry her daughter’s boyfriend has given reasons for her action that was considered awful by her family.

Her daughter, Aisha, had opted out of the relationship that lasted some years with her suitor on the reason that she could not marry him.

Speaking to a local radio station, Freedom Radio today in Kano, Khadija said she decided to marry her daughter’s suitor when it became clear that Aisha had decided not to marry him, adding that she felt that both of them should not lose the man.

Khadija, who is a Muslim, said what she did, that is, divorcing her husband to remarry, was within the tenets of Islam. She told the radio station that she was living happily with her new husband.

“I didn’t do it with ignorance. I contacted clerics and they said it is not prohibited in Islam. When I contacted him (the new husband), he agreed, but my parents and relatives refused to do the marriage rites. That was why I decided to go to Hisbah and we are happily married now,” Khadija said.

In reaction, Khadija’s family accused the commandant of a local civilian security formation, Hisbah, in Rano LGA of marrying off their daughter without their consent.

Abdullahi Musa Rano m, Khadija’s uncle, said his family refused to give consent to the marriage because she mounted pressure on her husband to divorce her just to marry the man.

“We can’t do this shameful thing in our family which was why we refused to join them in marriage. We are not happy with what Hisbah did and we want them to bring out our daughter. We want the general commandant and the state government to look into the matter,” he stated.
