Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Leicester City was attained by a brace from Marcus Rashford and a goal from Jadon Sancho.
Marcus Rashford scored twice as Manchester United beat Leicester City 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, to make this his most-prolific season ever and move Erik ten Hag’s side within three points of second place in the Premier League.
The visitors were very much on top in the first half, with United requiring two top saves from David De Gea to keep the game level, the best of which was a superb reflex stop to keep Kelechi Iheanacho’s header out, Eurosports reports.
Leicester was able to get in down the right-hand side on numerous occasions in the first half, with both Timothy Castagne and Tete getting joy and putting crosses in from that side.
Just five minutes after De Gea denied Leicester from taking the lead, United had their noses in front. Bruno Fernandes played a delightful ball with the outside of his foot into the path of Rashford who was able to fire it past Danny Ward to give his side the lead.
Erik ten Hag’s side was much better in the second half and they came out on the front foot, looking to extend their lead from the first whistle. Just three minutes into the second period United were inches from going 2-0 up with Lisandro Martinez heading a Bruno Fernandes free kick onto the crossbar.
United didn’t have to wait long for another goal though, doubling their advantage after 56 minutes. Fred played in Rashford who was able to calmly slide past Danny Ward. The flag went up for offside so the celebrations were muted, but after a VAR check the goal was given and United had their second.
Just five minutes later United had a third, a goal that was perhaps the pick of the bunch. Sancho played a neat pass into Fernandes who was able to smartly play it back into the path of Sancho in the box who was able to stroke it home the first time into the bottom corner. A huge goal for Sancho as he continues his recent resurgence at United.
Ten Hag’s side didn’t relent and continued to push forward in search of a fourth goal, with Wout Weghorst coming close on a couple of occasions.
The game finished 3-0, seeing United close the gap on crosstown rivals City and move just five points behind league leaders Arsenal.
