Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Thursday paid a visit to the Benin City office of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as well as several other banks in city to assess the extent of damage following Wednesday’s protest and attack on the banks’ buildings.

 

The governor also visited some markets in the state capital where Wednesday’s protest was known to have been heated.

Governor Obaseki, immediately after he left the CBN, went to Wema Bank along Akpakpava Road, and Access Bank, where he interacted with bank manager.

During his interaction with residents of Akpakpava Road, they said the touts who caused the mayhem came from Ignesamwan.

The residents told the governor that Wema Bank and Sterling were all paying cash to customers before the hoodlums came.

In his response, Governor Obaseki encouraged anyone who has the video of the incidents to forward it to the appropriate authority for subsequent action.

The governor also paid a visit to New Benin Market as well as Oba Market, where he interacted with the traders.
