The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won 15 states out of the 28 states of the federation where governorship elections were held at the weekend. The states won by the APC are Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina and Kwara. Others are Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Sokoto, and Yobe.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has won in eight states which are Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Delta, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, and Zamfara.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party won in Kano State.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to conclude the governorship elections held in four states where the exercise was either declared inconclusive or the collation of results suspended.

Inconclusive governorship elections

Adamawa State

INEC has declared the election in Adamawa State inconclusive. Before the decision was announced, the PDP governorship candidate who is the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, had won in 13 local government areas, polling 421,524 votes while his main challenger, Senator Aisha Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had won in eight local government areas, polling 390,275 votes.

Kebbi State

INEC declared the governorship election in Kebbi State in conclusive. Before the decision was made, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nasiru Idris, had polled 388,258 votes while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, retired Maj-Gen. Aminu Bande polled 342,980 votes.

Collation of election results suspended

Abia State

INEC has suspended collation of governorship election results in Abia State due to the need to review results from Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.

Enugu State

INEC has suspended the collation of the governorship election results in Enugu State until the results from Nsukka Local Government Area and Nkanu East Local Government Area are reviewed.
