The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed all workers to stage protests at all the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) offices nationwide beginning from next week over the persistent cash crunch in the country.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, gave the directive Wednesday at a press conference in Abuja.

He said the directive became imperative following the expiration of a one-week ultimatum the NLC gave to the CBN last week to make cash available to Nigerians.

Nigerians have been under the weight of a crushing cash crunch in the last two months as a result of the naira redesign policy of the CBN.

The policy saw the withdrawal, redesign and reissue of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 banknotes. However, the amount of the redesigned notes issued does not seem to be commensurate with the amount withdrawn from circulation, leading to severe cash scarcity.
