Delta State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije, has said that the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa led administration has in the past eight years executed many legacy projects in the state, that had impacted positively on the socio-economic lives of Deltans.
Chief Tilije disclosed this in an interview with journalists shortly after leading a team of commissioners in the state on a guided tour of various sections of the magnificent and imposing Maryam Babangida Leisure Park in Asaba.
He said that the Maryam Babangida Leisure Park was one of the many legacy projects that the Okowa’s administration had bequeathed to Deltans.
According to him, the Maryam Babangida Leisure Park should be the best park in the African continent, considering the size and facilities in the park, adding that it was conceived and built by the state government to expand the frontiers of tourism development and recreational facilities in the state.
He, therefore, urged tourists within and outside the country to explore the tourism potentials and recreational facilities in the park by visiting the facility which, he said, haboured the Asaba Film Village.
“We are gradually winding up the Okowa administration in Delta State. You will recall that this administration came into sit since 2015. Constitutionally, Okowa’s tenure must end on the 29th of May, 2023.
“As part of our handover, we thought it was important for us to come around and look at some very serious legacy projects of his administration and then use the opportunity too to join ourselves with the communicators of these projects that he has done and to also let Deltans know that we are extremely happy with what we have done.
“Okowa is a sincere Governor and I don’t need to begin to talk about all the legacy projects he has been able to put together. And of course, he is leaving in gold in the real sense of it.
“This particular Leisure Park, I guess, should be the best in the whole of Africa. The size alone tells it all. You can see the packaging, it is clearly well guarded.
“It also harbours the Film Village and we all know that Deltans are clearly on top in the film industry in Nigeria. This was the reason this administration thought it wise to actually establish this here in Asaba.
“So, we thank Deltans for giving us the opportunity to serve and we invite them to come and take a look and give themselves some joy. This is also an opportunity to tell others outside this country, that such a Park exists in Asaba, Delta State.
“I understand that the fee is very generous, so even the average Deltan can manage to come. It is important for us to save towards tourism and then go out and enjoy ourselves.
“I thank you so much for joining us on this little tour and help us tell the world that a lot is happening here. This is just one of too many legacies that Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has actually left behind,” Tilije who is the Dean of Commissioners in the state added.
