…promoting the fundamental right to a safe and healthy working environment

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2023 is usually characterized with global dialogues that will explore how to implement a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work.

The events promote the new fundamental right which was recognized in the 2022 International Labour Conference Resolution and also include discussion on the action ILO (International Labour Organization) tripartite constituents can take moving forwards.

This year’s theme: “A Safe & Healthy Workplace/ Environment – A Fundamental Principle & Right “, speaks so much to the reality in today’s workplace – depravation, injustice, and pain endured by workers around the world.

Conversely, and better still, it shines the light on opportunities and renewed hope for a better workplace, designed for workers’ growth & development and better suited for improved corporate productivity.

It is for the latter reason above that a sundry call is made for all interested parties, and indeed stakeholders to join hands with workers across all industry sectors to build a workplace devoid of threats, shambolic working conditions and worker stagnation.

Occupational Health & Safety Professionals have the duty to provide the guidance to help business leaders see the value propositions for health & safety at the workplace, and to help them entrench a work environment – safe & healthy for all.

To all my colleagues out there, Happy World Day for Safety and Health 2023!
