The Federal Government of Nigeria today launched the Nigeria Immigration Service Passport Front Office in Auchi, in Edo north senatorial district, Edo State. This was disclosed by Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior on his social media handle.

The ceremony took place less than two weeks to the end of the current administration which will handover to another regime on 29 May 2023.

He said: “The launch of another Passport Front Desk Office in the Country is significant as the Nigerian Passport is a proof of existence especially for those outside the Country as Inability to produce it on demand may bring untoward consequences.

“This is the 6th Passport Front Office we would be launching this year in our effort to bring passport application processing closer to the person. We are also in the final stage of concluding negotiations with NIPOST to begin the usage of its speed mail service to deliver passports to Nigerians wherever they are in the world after production.”

He added that it was the projection of the federal government to open more front offices so as to reduce the waiting period to about three days saying that in the long run, private operators would be engaged to provide the lounge for a fee, while the Nigeria Immigration Service be responsible for the provision of the equipment and personnel.
