President Bola Tinubu has appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, as his Chief of Staff, this newspaper has gathered.

Sources in the Presidential Villa say Gbajabiamila was appointed into the president’s kitchen cabinet after several hours of meetings and consultations, but the president decided to keep the appointment secret until his tenure expires as Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives on June 11.

Another source who asked not to be named said Gbajabiamila was introduced to Service Chiefs at a meeting between President Tinubu and the nation’s security chiefs held at the Presidential Villa in the early hours of Thursday.

Gbajabiamila was re-elected into the Green Chamber of the National Assembly in February 2023.

His failure to collect his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) created an earlier speculation that he was going to be appointed into a key position in the executive arm of the Tinubu government.

By his appointment, Gbajabiamila would have to forgo his election into the House of Representatives for the sixth term, and fresh election would be held in his constituency for a new representative.
