…begin manhunt for alleged killer husband

Edo State Police Command has confirmed that its operatives evacuated the remains of a pregnant woman murdered by her husband in Benin City.

The woman, Osaretin Adun, 25, was killed at Egba, Benin City, where she lived with her husband. They were expecting their fourth child when the husband allegedly stabbed her to death with a knife.

The police said the killer husband, identified simply as Mr. Inuaghata, fled the crime scene before they arrived.
Father of the murdered woman, Mr Samuel Adun, was said to have reported the unfortunate incident at a police station in the neighbourhood.

A serious manhunt has be launched after the fleeing abusive husband, the police said. Investigators at the homicide section of the Edo State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are said to have taken over the case.
This emerged as the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, stepped up campaign against spousal abuse in the state.

Mrs. Obaseki spoke beside a hospital bed of one Mrs. Tina Okhiria, who is recovering from amputation of her left hand after being shot by her abusive husband, Mr. Jason Okhiria, now in police custody in Benin City.
The First Lady urged members of the public to approach the state Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues over issues of spousal battery, as no individual regardless of status or influence has the right to abuse their spouse.
