Landlords and Landladies of Obianke Street behind the Fire Service Area in Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State have raised an alarm over the deplorable conditions of roads in the area.

The said Obianke Street which connects Otekile Street and other roads in the area has become a death trap following the effect of ravaging flood on it each time it rains.

The sad development has made life uncomfortable for residents of the area who continued to suffer difficult experiences on the roads every rainy season.

Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved Landlords and Landladies, Mr. Achikpekri Harrison, narrated their ugly ordeal, noting that they have been suffering untold hardship every rainy season due to the poor state of their roads.

He disclosed that early last year, reports came that the Obianke Street repair works contract has been awarded, unfortunately, till this time this year the contractor is not known by anyone in the area and he has not mobilized to the site.

He stated that every effort to prevail on the said contractor to come and resume work at the site has not yielded any positive result.

He added that residents of the area usually go through tough times to access their homes whenever there is a heavy downpour, yet, the contractor is not bothered as he keeps saying that he has not been mobilized by the State Government.

Speaking in the same vein, the Landlords and Landladies frowned at the poor handling of the ongoing road project at Odibeli Street, Thomas Tina Street, Ekome Street, and Obianke Lane.

They declared that the contractor is taken the quietness of the people for granted.

According to them, “We are indeed sad about the deplorable state of Obianke Street and also, about the substandard work of the contractor handling Odibeli, Thomas Tina, and Ekome Streets, including Obianke Lane.

The drainages are without strong iron rods as a result, in less than one month, they have started collapsing because they were poorly constructed.

“Therefore, we sincerely appeal to the Delta State Government to come to our aid by prevailing on the contractor who was awarded Obianke Street to urgently resume work at the site. Also, the contractor handling Odibeli, Thomas Tina, and Ekome Streets should deliver a quality job without any hesitation.

We resolved that the contractor’s work on the gutters is defective and not to specifications.

More so, the gutters along Ekome Lane are caving in already; the gutters along Odibeli Street did not start from the beginning of the street; at the Omenogor end of Obianke Lane, the gutters ought to be extended a little bit. All the gutters are supposed to end at the Orogodo River.

They expressed gratitude to the immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for awarding the road projects and appealed to him to help call the contractors to order.
