Residents of Owhrode Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State have called on the state government to come to their aid and fix deteriorating roads in their locality.

The residents lamented that they were suffering untold hardship due to the dilapidated state of the roads, which they said made it difficult for them to access other neighbouring communities.

Speaking on the situation, Comrade Kelly Gobri, a resident and also an indigene of the community, told newsmen that eight years ago, he had drawn the attention of the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, by writing a letter complaining about the bad roads and nothing was done.

“Today, I find myself reaching out to the highest authority as the specter of marginalization haunts us once again, as it is disheartening to witness the worst state of the road this rainy season,” he added.

Also, Samuel Ejiro, a member of the community youth exco, said that the condition of the road was a nightmare to the residents of the community and that it hindered economic activities in the area.

He said that their woes were worsened whenever it rained, explaining that motorists and commuters found it difficult to access the area.

Ejiro also said that the state government could not dabble into the Owhrode Road saga, saying that investigation showed that the road had already been awarded to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) several years ago.

He, therefore, called on the Udu Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Jite Brown, to take proper action in ensuring that NDDC reviewed the contract and commenced work on the road.
