The Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., has inaugurated an organizing committee for the maiden edition of the HOS football tournament scheduled to hold in Benin City.

The eight-member committee has a seasoned sports administrator, Victor Edokpayi, as Chairman also a FIFA-graded referee, Faith Irabor, as member.

Other members of the committee include Emmanuel Ajibola, Mr. Vincent Ikeke, Newton Erhunmse, Dr Richard Alabi, and a seasoned sports journalist, Joseph Isokpehi, while Benita Ogbeiwi is to serve as Secretary.

Speaking during the inauguration in his office at the Government House, the Head of Service disclosed that the cup for the tournament was donated by a Good Samaritan who appreciates the work Mr. Governor is doing in the State.

“It will be on record that this is the very first time this will be taking place, so we have to appreciate Mr. Governor, the Deputy Governor and everyone who is making sure sports thrives in the State,” Okungbowa said.

He enjoined members of the committee to work in synergy to ensure a successful football tournament, noting that with the calibre of people therein, he had the confidence that things will work out well.

Tasking the committee to put in their best to ensure that they deliver a best-in-class tournament to the satisfaction of all, Okungbowa charged that even though there hasn’t been a precedent to the HOS Cup, they should put in their best to make the tourney a huge success.

He assured of the State Government’s readiness to give the committee all necessary logistics and other support that would elevate the standard of the football fiesta.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Mr. Victor Edokpayi, assured the Head of Service that the committee would do everything within its means to ensure it delivers on assigned duties.

He said the HOS football tournament will be physically and socially engaging for participating Civil and Public Servants to meet the desired objectives of the tournament.

The tournament is being organized to promote social interaction and physical wellbeing of Public Servants across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State.
