Delta State Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Economic Planning, Mr Frank Isume, has urged Deltans and non Deltans resident in the state to register with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN) for easy identification and data collation.

The Permanent Secretary made this known on Friday at the flag-off ceremony of the Delta State Free National Identification Number (NIN) registration on going in the state.

“NIMC called on states to apply for them to register citizens of each state. Delta State applied and having met with the requirements Delta state has been issued with the license to register citizens of the state, non-citizens and foreigners resident in the state,” said Isume, who was represented by the Director of Administration in the ministry, Mr Sunday Omamofo.

“For effective service delivery, the state government has partnered with Ministry of Economic Planning, Delta State Scholarship Board and ZenithView Enterprise,” he said.

He said that the licence would avail the state the opportunity to register the citizens seamlessly by making more registration centers available in the different local government areas, have an accurate data bank to enable government plan and as well a source of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The state Director of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Mrs Efe Oki, represented by the Principal Manager Operations, NIMC, Delta State, Mr Victor Nwuzor, said that there was no age limit in the registration.

She explained that card production had been stopped in order to populate the data base, but noted that as soon as the embargo was lifted, card production would begin.

Mrs Oki further stated that a misplaced slip can be replaced with a token, and that children from the age of 16 years were eligible to own the identity card and that the life span of the card was five years, adding that that the card expires but NIN does not expire.

The Director of Administration in Delta State Scholarship Board, Mr Otu Tejere, urged all to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the state government.

Also, the Former Executive Secretary Delta State Scholarship Board, Dr Sunday Orishedere, stated that NIN was strategic, noting that in the nearest future nothing can be done without NIN and as well residency card will be given to citizens.

Earlier, Mr Emmanuel Akunoghere of ZenithViews commended the state government for the partnership and promised an effective service and seamless delivery for residents of the state.

The highpoint of the flag-off was the registration of persons who have not been registered.
