The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Kogi State election, Senator Dino Melaye, has promised to put an end to salaries by percentages in the state if elected.

Melaye made the promise at the weekend during an interactive session with youths from the state at his residence in Abuja.

The former senator, while unveiling to the youths his mapped-out plans to alleviate poverty in the state as soon as he is elected, stated that he would run a people-centred government.

He also assured the youths of full transparency in the allocation of monetary resources to various quarters, including the local government sector, workers, teachers and pensioners, stressing that these monies would not be diverted from their original purpose to private pockets.

“The first line of the current economy of our state is built on salaries and remuneration. Yet, this is not available to the people, particularly those in the local government areas, including the pensioners,” Melaye told the youths.

“I want to assure the people of Kogi State that under my leadership as governor of the state, the federal allocations and state contributions designed for the local governments will not go into some private pockets,” he said.

The PDP candidate also pledged to put a halt to the trend of salaries being paid with percentage in the state.

“I have promised the people of Kogi State that I will put an end to salaries by percentages in our state, and when elected, I will do so. The local government workers, as well as the teachers, will have access to their funds,” he said.

Melaye said noted that with huge mineral resources that abound across Kogi State, the state has no business with poverty.

In his reaction, the youth leader, Mallam Yusuf Onalo, said that the Kogi youths were coming to an agreement that Dino Melaye is most capable of restoring the better days of the state for the sake of the Kogi people.

He further emphasized that this consensus agreement was what prompted their visit to reaffirm their support towards Melaye and the PDP at the polls come November 11.
