Former Manchester United Captain Harry Maguire is set to leave the club in a move to London side West Ham.

According to Sky Sports, an agreement has reportedly been reached in principle for a fee of close to £ 32 million, and personal terms are reported not to be a problem.

Since Maguire’s record-breaking £ 80 million move from Leicester to Old Trafford in 2019, the defender has been the subject of criticism and mockery by fans and the media, following horrendous performances for the Reds.

Many errors, mistakes leading to goals, as well as own-goals made the fans lose faith in him and his abilities.

The arrival of Dutch Manager, Erik Ten Hag to United last season saw the English man fall from the pecking order of the team selection as Maguire played less than 10 hours of Premier League football last season. Varane and then new signing Lisandro Martinez formed a rock-solid defensive pairing which saw United record the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season.

At the end of the season, Ten Hag stripped Maguire of the captaincy, and Bruno Fernandez was announced as the team’s new captain which was definitely a bitter pill to swallow for the player.

Though the 30-year-old remains a starter for the English national team, his club career has been nothing to write home about and according to the British head coach Gareth South Gate; “the player needs more play time if he is going to keep his place in the National team”, and West ham according to some football analysts will give the defender that opportunity to get back to his best.

With new signings such as Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United will be looking to offload some players.

Maguire and Scott Mc Tominay are targets for West Ham, with other players such as Fred and Donny Van de Beek also on their way out.
