The Nigerian Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio continues to operate in a stable and harmonious manner as it strives for a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria, according to statements made by Hon Eseme Eyiboh, the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the Senate President.

Eyiboh was responding to recent reports in some weekend newspapers alleging plots to disrupt the Senate and its leadership.

Dismissing these claims as pure imagination often tinged with malice, and with unclear motives, Eyiboh pointed out that the Senate had moved beyond the intense competition of the leadership elections. He stated that attempts to implicate senators who initially did not support the current leadership in non-existent conspiracies were unfounded and unfair. He also noted that senators were presently on holiday in their respective constituencies and elsewhere, taking time to rejuvenate after the inauguration, ministerial screenings, and other demanding activities.

“Senators are presently concluding their holidays in their constituencies and other places they have chosen to spend their time after the rigours of the inauguration and ministerial screening and other constructive engagements,” Eyiboh said.

“All senators are also refreshing themselves ahead of the resumption, therefore, any suggestions that they are presently engaged in other subversive plots against the institution is rather uncharitable. It is mostly uncharitable for those senators who initially did not support the emergence of the leadership but who have all unanimously endorsed the Senator Akpabio-led leadership. Continuing to link these senators with needless conspiracy with barely disguised innuendo is rather unkind,” he said.

Eyiboh emphasized that any suggestions of senators being involved in subversive activities were unkind and unwarranted while calling the media to exercise caution and refrain from propagating such conspiracy theories that could tarnish the reputations they had built over time.
