The people of Ashama Community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State have appealed to the state government to come to their aid as the community’s health centre, school and roads are in deplorable conditions.
The appeal was made on Thursday when a delegation from the community, led by its traditional ruler, HRM (Obi) Solomon Chinyelugo, paid the Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, a courtesy visit in her office in Asaba.
The royal father on behalf of the community congratulated the commissioner on her appointment.
He said her appointment was a testimony of her excellent performance in the previous administration.
He, however, revealed that the community’s health centre was in a deplorable condition and needed urgent attention as having access to health care services had become a wild goose chase.
In the same vein, the chairman of the community’s development council, Sir Festus Okoh, expressed his displeasure at the merger of the community’s health centre which had brought about a decline in quality health care delivery. He appealed for autonomy.
Speaking further, the Ashama traditional ruler also decried the bad state of roads in the community which had impeded the transportation of farm produce and encumbered access in and out of the community.
In her response, the commissioner assured the community leaders of the commitment of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration to infrastructural development of both rural and urban communities in the state, which is an integral part of the MORE Agenda.
Onyemaechi advised the community leaders to formally put their requests in writing to the state government, through the Ministries of Health, Works, and Basic and Secondary Education, respectively, and promised to follow up.
