The Edo State House of Assembly adhoc committee on project monitoring on Monday flagged off Operation Project Unveil (OPU) to showcase all Gov. Godwin Obaseki completed and ongoing projects in the state.
Speaking during the flag off ceremony at Idogbo, the administrative headquarters of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Council, Hon. Natasha Osawaru, the Chairman of the committee said the essence was to showcase projects executed by the governor since 2016.
Hon. Osawaru, who is representing Egor in the Assembly, stated that it was the constitutional right of the members to embark on oversight functions to various ministries departments and agencies to ensure that monies appropriated were judiciously spent.
She noted that the inspection and unveiling of all the state government projects would be done in all the18 Local Government Areas with each council allocated two weeks for the inspection tour.
“A lot of people are not aware of the so many projects the Governor has executed in Edo since 2016 when he assumed office.
“That is why I and my committee members have taken it upon ourselves to showcase all these projects that have been executed across the state.
“To be honest, I am swept off my feet after seeing the projects the Governor has done in Ikpoba Okha Local Government area alone and we have not gone 10 percent.
“We started from the newly constructed Magistrate Court at Idogbo and the road leading to the court. I am elated about this project because where there is a conducive environment for justice system, crime reduces.
“This Magistrate Court project was put in the budget and it has been executed. Some people put projects in the budget and are never executed.
“With this inspection, we have seen that all the projects captured in the budget are physically on ground for us to see.
“We also visited Idogbo police station. They were operating from under the tree after hoodlums burnt down the station during Endsars protest.
I am so proud of the Governor,” Hon. Osawaru said.
According to her, “We also inspected Egba Primary School and Erediauwa road with 23 adjoining roads constructed by Gov. Obaseki.
Also speaking at Idogbo Police Station, member representing Uhunmwode, Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi said the committee was impressed with the projects visited so far.
Hon.Osamwonyi said, “This police station was burnt down by hoodlums during EndSars protest and it has been reconstructed by the State Government with modern facilities.
“We want to commend the State Government for his swift response to the call of the community to rebuild the police station due the security challenges in the Local Government.
According to him, the committee will be on the inspection tour in Ikpoba Okha local government for a period of two weeks.
He appealed to the indigenes of the Local Government to cooperate with the committee during the duration of the visit.
Other members of the committee included, Hon. Dr. Richard Edosa (LP Oredo West), Hon. Osamwonyi Atu (APC Orhionmwon 1), Hon. Bright Iyamu (PDP Orhionmwon) and Hon. Frank Omosigho (PDP Oredo East).
Meanwhile, the committee, during the inspection tour visited the newly constructed Idogbo Police Station, Egba Primary School, Magistrate Court, Emotan Garden, among others all in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.
