Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has pledged parliamentary assistance towards bolstering the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike’s efforts in enhancing social infrastructure and ensuring food security in the nation’s capital.
He stated this during a meeting with a delegation from the Kuje Interfaith Forum led by Pastor Sam Ogbodo.
The delegation, representing the multi-ethnic and multi-religious Kuje Inter-faith Forum, highlighted the urgent need for basic social amenities in the Kuje community, particularly roads, during their courtesy visit.
Expressing enthusiasm for the community’s unity, Kalu emphasized the alignment of their requests with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. He assured the group of the Parliament’s commitment to collaborating with the executive branch in realizing these shared objectives.
“We recognize that the concerns raised today resonate with Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on economic reform, national security enhancement, agricultural advancement for food security, energy utilization, and infrastructure development,” Kalu stated.
Asserting the unity of purpose among the three arms of government, Kalu reiterated the legislature’s role in supporting the executive to achieve national goals. He underscored the alignment between the Parliament’s recently unveiled legislative agenda and the issues articulated by the delegation, emphasizing their inclusion in the national objectives.
“The enhancement of infrastructure is pivotal not only for Kuje or the FCT but for the entirety of Nigeria,” Kalu affirmed. “I am confident in the Minister’s commitment to interpreting the Renewed Hope Agenda, especially concerning infrastructure in the FCT.”
Responding to Pastor Ogbodo’s plea for improved water supply, Kalu acknowledged the significance of linking Kuje Area Council to the existing pipe-borne water supply systems in neighboring councils, recognizing the positive impact on the community’s health.
The Deputy Speaker concluded by reiterating the House of Representatives’ commitment to supporting the Minister in meeting the needs of Kuje and ensuring the overall development of the FCT.
