Kogi State Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Senator Dino Melaye has demanded for the cancellation of elections in five local government areas of the state, as the voting exercise was concluded and sorting and counting commenced in the off season governorship polls, Saturday.

Melaye demanded that the elections be cancelled in Okene, Okehi, Ajaokuta, Adavi, and Ogori/Mangogo local governments, claiming that the execise had been compromised in those units

Melaye posted on his official X account, that: “INEC must cancel the election in the 5 local governments of Kogi-Central. The election in Okene, Okehi, Ajaoukuta, Adavi, and Ogori/Mangogo is a scam coordinated from the highest level of INEC.”

Curiously, Melaye did not show up at his polling unit at Iluafon quarters, Aiyetoro 1, Ijumu Local Government Area of the Kogi State. Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission were however said to have visited the unit. Their mission was not immediately known.

Melaye’s main rival in the contest is Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abejide is said to be quite influential and is considered a potent threat to Melaye’s governorship aspirations.
