…promises to complete Akeredolu’s projects

The Acting Governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been sworn in as the substantive governor state.

Aiyedatiwa was sworn in by the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, at the Government House Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital on Wednesday.

This followed the death of the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Wednesday following a prolonged battle with leukaemia.

The swearing-in was attended by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, members of the assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, the state Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ade Adetimehin, members of the executive council, political office holders, and other party members.

In his address after he was sworn in, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the death of Akeredolu as unfortunate.

“The death of our governor and leader was a devastating shock to the people of the state. It’s a colossal loss to the state and Nigeria,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He condoled with the governor’s family, the traditional ruler of Owo, and the people of the state.

He said the people of South West would be eternally grateful to Akeredolu for the establishment of Amotekun, which has reduced the menace of banditry, kidnapping and other criminality in the region.

Governor Aiyedatiwa promised to complete all ongoing projects left behind by Akeredolu.

He added that the late governor’s record of performance was monumental and unprecedented.

Akeredolu died on Wednesday morning at the age of 67, and according to the state government, he died of prostate cancer.

Akeredolu had embarked on two separate medical vacations, the first on April 3, 2023, and the second on July 10, 2023. On September 7, he made his way back to the country and promptly notified the state House of Assembly.
