The Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) has commended the Edo State Government for its efforts in ensuring an inclusive governance for the benefit of all.
The Executive Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki who was represented by the Commissioner for Social Development and Gender Issues, Christabel Omoh Ekwu during the award presentation and celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disability at Jasmine Garden in Benin City, reiterated that the state government is committed in the support of people with disabilities with the view of ensuring that they are carried along in everyday governance.
Obaseki further asserted that the state government is one that is open to inclusiveness in its developmental strides for both citizens and non-citizen residents within the state, encouraging stakeholders to collaborate with government in the fight against every form of violence against persons with disabilities.
“We, as a government will always be open to the implementation of polices that will favour persons with disabilities, just as the disability law has been implemented in Edo State,”Governor Obaseki said.
Earlier, the chairperson of the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Edo State Chapter, Ann Ojugo, in her address noted that, the International Day of Persons With Disability is a creation of the United Nations General Assembly, via resolution 47/3 in the year 1992, geared towards promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, adding that the day was set aside to raise awareness on the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.
The chairperson appreciated the Obaseki led-administration for its inclusiveness of persons with disabilities in its developmental agenda.
Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of an award of excellence to the Executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and other notable personalities.
