The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor, has called for a more united Delta in order to achieve greater peace and development in the state.

The Speaker made this call during a meeting with the leaders of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Warri South West Local Government Area.

Rt. Hon. Guwor stated that the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was on course, even as he expressed optimism that 2024 would record higher levels of socio-economic growth and political stability in the state.

He said the state government was poised to take development to even the most remote areas of the state, noting that the support of the people was needed in achieving these lofty goals.

Guwor maintained that the Delta State Assembly under his watch would continue to partner with other arms of government towards ensuring sustainable growth and prosperity in the state.

He reminded the people of Warri South West local government area on the need to be focused in order to make more progress in the locality, urging them to jettison acts and actions capable of breeding disunity in the constituency.

The Speaker appreciated all for their support before, during and after the 2023 general elections and sought for more support, prayers and understanding to enable him succeed in the task ahead of him.

The Speaker particularly expressed immense gratitude to leaders of PDP in Warri South West for their commitment to the success of the party in the area, stressing that the party would achieve more in the locality when leaders and members are united.

He disclosed that the purpose of the meeting was to appreciate them for mobilizing for his victory in the 2023 House of Assembly election.

Guwor emphasized that the victory did not only make him a second term member of the hallowed chamber, but also led to his emergence as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly as well as national treasurer, Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria.

“I want to again commend leaders of our party for the role they played in ensuring I emerged victorious during the election.

“Please help me to extend my gratitude to members and supporters of PDP across the ten wards and various communities in Warri South West local area.

“In a very short time I will go around the wards to personally meet with the electorate to appreciate them as we advance party politics and democratic governance in our local government.

“I want to appeal to leaders of the various wards to work out a schedule for the visits to further appreciate the people for their show of love towards me and the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori,” Guwor said.

In their separate remarks, some leaders of the People’s Democratic Party in Warri South West Congratulated Rt. Hon. Guwor for his emergence as Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and assured him of their unalloyed support to enable him succeed as the Presiding Officer of the state legislature.

Those who spoke included Chairman, PDP Warri South West, Chief Favour Izuokumor; Chairman, Warri South West Local Government Council, Mr. Taiye Duke Tuoyo; two former Commissioners in the state, Chief Frank Omare and Mr. Mofe Pirah.

A pioneer member of the State Assembly who represented Warri South West constituency, Dr Patrick Fregene; Chief Boroh Opuduh and Chief Vero Tamgbowei.

They appealed to the Speaker to join forces with the leaders to make PDP in Warri South West more formidable, urging him to always represent the interest of his constituency.

The well attended gathering of PDP leaders of Warri South West, with councillors representing the various wards, and party executives across the electoral wards, took place at the private residence of the Speaker in Warri.
