The Dele Giwa Essay Competition 2024 reached its anticipated grand finale spectacularly in Etsako Central Local Gocernment Area. Hon. Solomon Obomighie, the Executive Chairman of Etsako Central LGA, expressed joy during his statement on a procession and laying of flowers on the grave where the hero who came from Etsako Central remains was committed to Mother Earth, in his hometown in Ekperi, Etsako Central LGA.

According to Igbanor Anthony A, Chief Press Secretary, Etsako Central LGA, immediately after the procession at Ekperi, the executive chairman joined the young talents at the council hall in Estako Central, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to nurturing and empowering schools in Etsako Central and students competing for the essay competition at the local government council.

The chairman expressed gladness and affirmed his wards, saying, “I am committed to raising young talents in the field of journalism, fostering intellectual growth, and bringing to light the desired developmental happening in the educational sector at Etsako Central LGA.”

The competition, which featured participation from both junior and senior secondary schools, was judged by Mr. Anthony Ofunne, Mr. Momodu Otono, and Mr. Utsalo Henry from the Department of Mass Communication, Auchi Polytechnic

A panel of three judges meticulously assessed the essays submitted by the students, evaluating their knowledge, creativity, and ability to articulate ideas effectively resulting in winners in the essay competition.

The first runner-up of the essay competition in the junior category is Oshomokhai Kenneth from Saint John Secondary School, while the winner was Idegbo Elisha representing Fugar Mixed Secondary School, while Fidelis Abada from Pioneer Comprehensive College emerged third.

In the senior category, Patrick Stone took the first position from Pioneer High School, the first runner-up was Apekhena Stephen representing Ogbona Secondary School, while Agbor Grace from Oseme Secondary School came third.

Hon. Solomon Obomighie reiterated the importance of encouraging and supporting young individuals interested in journalism, emphasizing the significance of journalism as a catalyst for societal development, and the need for ethical reporting, objective analysis, and the pursuit of truth.

The Dele Giwa Essay Competition serves as a platform for young writers in Etsako Central to express their thoughts and showcase their writing prowess. The event witnessed the convergence of talented students, esteemed judges, and notable dignitaries from various sectors of society.
