As Edo State joins the rest of the World to commemorate World Cancer Day, the Edo State Commissioner of Water Resources, Hon. Asi Suraj Jibril has commended the state government’s efforts to provide hygienic water to communities without water to improve their livelihood.

The Commissioner of Water Resources said His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki-led administration is poised to ensure the availability of potable water in the 18 local government areas as captured in this year’s budget, tagged “Budget to finish strong”.

He said there is the urgent need for proper hygiene and availability of portable water to curb the ravaging effect of cancer, prevalent amongst women, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and prostate and liver cancer amongst men.

The commissioner noted that with more than 878,000 new cases recorded and 587,000.00 deaths recorded are worrisome and he called on women to imbibe the concept of proper sanitation and hygienic culture by making use of portable water to clean their environment and improve their well-being.

He disclosed that efforts are being intensified to provide portable water to the New Coral City and general hospitals across the state where water does not exist and he reiterated the commitment of his ministry to meet up with its mandate of providing clean water for consumption to Edo people.
