Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Gusau, has urged the U20 Boys, Flying Eagles, to give their all in their upcoming clash against Senegal’s Young Lions of Teranga at the African Games.
Expressing disappointment with the team’s performance in the ongoing tournament, especially after losing to Uganda and a narrow win over South Sudan, Gusau emphasized Nigeria’s esteemed reputation in global youth football. He stressed the importance of showcasing their potential against Senegal.
Gusau highlighted Nigeria’s strong pedigree in youth football worldwide, urging every player to remember this as they take the field. He admitted to giving the team a stern lecture after the poor match display against Uganda and expressed belief in their ability to do better, starting with the upcoming match against Senegal.
The Flying Eagles will face a crucial encounter against Senegal, with their qualification for the semi-finals hanging in the balance. Tunisia’s withdrawal from the group has made every match vital, with Uganda
already securing a semi-final spot. Nigeria and Senegal are now locked in a direct battle for the second spot.
Meanwhile, the defending champions Falconets have booked their place in the women’s event semi-finals with impressive wins over Morocco and Senegal.
The Falconets are set to face Cameroon in their final group game after accumulating six points from their first two matches.
Chioma Olise and Yina Adoo scored to send Morocco packing on Matchday 1, before an avalanche from Loveth Edeh, Motunrayo Ezekiel, an own goal by Aisha Kales and again Chioma Olise put Senegal to the sword on Monday night.
Cameroon, who have endured a string of defeats by Nigeria in various sporting spectacles in recent weeks, face another humiliation as they must take on the supercharged Falconets at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday evening.
