In response to the recent wave of terrorist attacks in Benue communities, the Nigerian Senate has vehemently condemned the violence and called for immediate action to prevent further bloodshed. During Wednesday’s plenary session, senators expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the country, particularly in the wake of the tragic killings in Logo, Goma, and Katsina-Ala areas of Benue State.

Senator Emmanuel Udende of Benue North East raised a point of order to address the issue, highlighting the gravity of the situation as over 50 lives were lost in the attacks. Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan underscored the collapse of the security architecture in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for urgent intervention to protect citizens from relentless terrorist and criminal activities.

Senators Abba Moro of Benue South, Adamu Aliero of Kebbi Central, and Ali Ndume of Borno South expressed deep concern over the unabated violence, stressing the imperative to halt the killings and combat violent crimes effectively.

In a unanimous resolution, the Senate urged the Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police to deploy personnel promptly to flush out the criminal elements terrorizing parts of Benue State. Additionally, the Upper Chamber called upon the executive to invest in surveillance technology to enhance security measures and curb the activities of terrorists.
