… insists she was cheated

Aina Abbey, the WBF International Super-Flyweight champion, suffered her first career defeat to French fighter Jeyssa Marcel, who holds titles in the IBO Intercontinental and WBC Youth world Bantamweight divisions.

The defeat came after eight rounds of their female bantamweight bout at the Zenith Metropole in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, France, with Marcel securing a majority decision victory.

Before this loss, Abbey boasted an undefeated record of 11 wins with nine knockouts, but now holds a career record of 11-0-1. Marcel, aged 22, extends her undefeated streak to 13 wins, including two knockout victories.

The 27-year-old was expecting a tough bout against her young opponent “It is a tough fight because she is number one in her country in our weight category and I am going to fight her there.”

Abbey expressed dissatisfaction with the result and believes she was cheated in the contest.

“I was not happy with the result because they used home advantage for her, despite the fact that the girl (Marcel) is bigger than me. In the weigh in, the girl weighed 52.88kg and I was 50.8kg

“They called for this fight just three weeks ago and she has been in camp for over two months working on her weight, which she dropped from 59kg to 52.88kg. I think that I should have won the fight,”

However, Abbey is still focused on her goal of being a world champion saying, “I know I feel cheated but all the same life goes on, I will never relent until I became world champion.”
