….affiliate Unions urged to be united

The newly elected leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Edo State has called on all affiliated unions to be united to achieve progress and put workers welfare first.

Speaking shortly after the election of the new executive members in Benin City, the leadership of the TUC led by the state chairman, Comrade Asemota Peter Ikponmwosa, said they will identify needs of affiliate unions and collaborate with the state government through the Head of Service.

“We have to work together and ensure a harmonious relationship between the state government and the union. We know the state government has been doing well, but there is room for improvement. We are going to pursue implementation of the wage award to ensure members benefit,” he said.

According to Ikponmwosa, the new leadership will work with the national body to ensure the activities of TUC is well projected in Edo State, as well as bring in unorganized members to increase the number of affiliate unions.

“We are going to standardize the records because before now we inherited zero presence,” he said.

The general secretary of the TUC, Comrade Anka Hassan, conducted the state delegate conference on Friday, April 19, 2024, at RTEAN Secretariat, Benin City.

The high point of the state delegate conference was the oath of office and swearing in of the newly elected state administrative council (SAC) led by Comrade Asemota Peter Ikponmwosa (state chairman), Comrade Alabi Precious (vice chairman), and Comrade Wasah James Joseph (secretary) and other state administration council members.
