Coco Gauff has said that “everybody has an equal shot” at winning the title at Wimbledon this year as she prepares to take to Centre Court on the opening day.
Gauff, who made her Wimbledon debut at the age of 15, is aware of the expectations on her shoulders as a Grand Slam champion and world No. 2 at the age of 20.
Reminiscing on her introduction to Wimbledon as a teenager, she said: “I think I had high expectations at that age. I still do.
Heading into SW19, the US Open champion admitted she does not place much importance on rankings.
While Gauff sits alongside Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka as one of the favourites, the American believes that the tournament is “anybody’s game.”
Wimbledon has seen seven different women claim the title in as many years.
Gauff faces fellow American Caroline Dolehide on Monday and is hoping for an improved performance after suffering a shock loss in the first round of the tournament last year.
She lost to compatriot Sofia Kenin in 2023, and she revealed that the defeat left her in a dark place.
After moving past that defeat, Gauff has found herself embracing the off-court elements and emotions her tennis career brings her.
