The gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Osarenren Derek Izedonmwen, has told Edo people in diaspora that they have a major role to play in the forthcoming September 21 governorship election in the state.
Izedonmwen stated this while addressing hundreds of Edo people in a series of town hall meetings held across various countries in Europe.
The ADC candidate said that if Edo State is safe and the economy is good, it will reduce the pressure on those in diaspora because whether they like it or not, they have family and friends back home.
“It’s time for us to do things differently, it’s time for us to try somebody else, it’s time for us to race the game. I am tired, just like you, of the sorry state of things. I want people at home to be self-sustaining so that the pressure on you will reduce, the pressure on you must reduce,” the ADC candidate said.
He reiterated his pledge to implement the RAIISE agenda and appealed to the Edo diasporans to support him to change the narrative of Edo State by calling on their family and friends back home to vote for him and his party the ADC.
“So I want to appeal to you; they will tell you that if you vote for a party like ADC… Ok, forget about the party, now focus on the individual. They will tell you if you vote for Derek, it’s a vote wasted. Appeal to your people to waste their vote. If you waste it on me, we will win. If you waste it for me, we will change the game for Edo state,” he said.
Izedonmwen urged Edo people to reject the big parties and criticized the major political parties, particularly the APC and PDP, for their long-standing dominance and lack of substantial development in Edo State. He advocated for fresh ideas and dynamic leadership to drive progress and prosperity in Edo State.
