The Edo State Public Building and Maintenance Agency’s Managing Director, Engr. Austin Osakue, says Governor Godwin Obaseki’s vision is to have a sector with related activities centralized in one location for ease of business transactions.
Osakue disclosed this during a weekly report meeting with Team Leads in his office to ascertain the level of work at project sites, particularly the Education Hub Iyaro.
He said Governor Obaseki’s reasons for the creation of hubs are to make life easy for Edolites, as they serve as a one-stop shop for related business activities, stating that when activities concerning health, education, arts, entertainment, and agriculture are concentrated in one place, it makes interactions among related business concerns easier.
The managing director added that the time and energy one would have used in traversing the entire city for a particular cause would be saved when such service could be accessed at the hub.
Osakue further disclosed that the Ministry of Physical Planning Urban and Regional Development and the Edo State Geographic Information Services have been housed in one building so that citizens who have anything to do with housing and building would obtain easy services in one location.
Similarly, the Stella Obasanjo Hospital Complex, Edo State Agricultural Development Programme (ADP), and the Education Hub Iyaro would serve as Medical, Agricultural and Education Hubs, respectively.
It would be recalled that the groundbreaking and foundation laying ceremony of the Education Hub took place last year. The Hub is expected to House the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), the Board of Technical, Vocational and Education Training (BTVET), and the Library Board.
The Hub is designed to also accommodate some sports facilities, a conference centre and a primary healthcare facility.
