Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili shared that her experiences at the recently concluded 2024 Olympic Games in France have made her recognize her inner strength in facing life’s challenges.
In a series of tweets on X, Ofili expressed pride in her performance at the Games, despite the less-than-ideal results.
Ofili was excluded from the 100m race at the Games due to administrative oversights by Nigerian athletic authorities, an issue that sparked concerns among stakeholders.
She took to social media to criticize Nigerian athletics officials after discovering her name was left out of the 100m race.
Her outburst later triggered strong public reactions.
Ofili advanced to the final of the women’s 200m, having placed first in the heats and second in the quarterfinals.
The Nigerian sprinter was assigned lane nine for the 200m final, alongside 100m gold medalist Julien Alfred, who was in lane eight.
Despite being in peak form and poised to end Nigeria’s 28-year wait for an Olympic 200m medal since Mary Onyali’s achievement at the 1996 Atlanta Games, the 21-year-old narrowly missed out on a podium finish in a highly competitive final.
After the race, an emotional Ofili was seen in tears, being comforted by journalists in the mixed zone.
