Thierry Henry has decided to resign from his position as coach of the France U-21 football team, following his guidance of the side to a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Monday.
Henry, the all-time leading goalscorer for Arsenal, took over the French youth team last summer and was under contract until June 2025. However, he chose to step down for “personal reasons,” according to the FFF.
In July, Henry led Les Bleuets to their first Olympic men’s tournament final since winning gold in Los Angeles in 1984.
His team ultimately lost 5-3 after extra time to Spain, concluding a remarkable run that began with significant challenges, including squad changes due to some clubs’ refusal to release players for the Games.
President Diallo expressed regret over Henry’s departure, acknowledging his achievements.
