… Team Edo begins contest with karate, table tennis, paratabletennis, weightlifting

The National Youth Games (NYGs) ‘Asaba 2024’ began on Wednesday as scheduled with screening of athletes from various states of the federation, as the Stephen Keshi stadium was overwhelmed with a large crowd of young athletes, including Edo athletes who came out for the screening exercise.

The screening exercise which lasted for more than ten hours was conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner as those screened out respected the decisions of the screening committee.

Having been cleared for the competition proper,Team Edo Karate and Tennis Coaches
expressed their teams readiness for the competition proper which begins tomorrow

Coach Osazuwa Uriel of Team Edo Karate said that his team is ready to do battle with any opponents that come their way as their competition begins at 10 AM inside the Multipurpose Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium,Asaba.

“I was never disturbed by the screening process because I prepared chidren within the age limit; 14 and 13 years. So, I never entertained the fear of disqualification and I believe in my athletes abilities to win something for our state,” Osazuwa said.

Coach Goriola Wahab of Team Edo Tennis also said that his team is ready for the game tomorrow, saying that team Edo athletes are in good shape. He added that his team is in Asaba to compete and win medals for Edo State.

The tennis competition is scheduled to begin at 7.30 AM at the Indoor Sports Hall.
