BENIN CITY — The family of a young man, identified as Osazee Darlington is reportedly living in a state of constant fear following a series of violent attacks and ongoing police intimidation linked to allegations of his involvement in same-sex activities.
The Incident in June 2024
According to a close family source, the crisis began in June 2024 at the residence of one Michael Alumomoh. It is alleged that Michael’s wife discovered Darlington and Michael in a “compromising situation.” The source claims the wife fled the house in distress, only for an angry mob to descend on the property moments later.
Both men were reportedly subjected to a severe beating by the mob. While Michael was apprehended, Darlington managed to escape the scene and has not been seen since.
The aftermath of the escape has left Darlington’s relatives in a precarious position. The family source detailed a harrowing environment where local youths and community members have launched a campaign of harassment against them.
”The family is distraught,” the source told our reporter. “They are in immediate danger. The youths have warned that the family must produce Darlington to face the same ‘persecution’ as Michael, who remains in police custody.”
Beyond the threat of community violence, the source noted that police have conducted multiple raids on the family home in an ongoing attempt to locate the missing man.
The allegations have come as a shock to those close to Darlington. The source noted that he was previously married to a woman named Osarugue, though the marriage ended in divorce. Some family members have speculated that his alleged involvement with Michael may have been a reaction to the emotional fallout and “heartbreak” following that separation.
As Michael Alumomoh remains in police custody, the situation highlights the volatile intersection of community vigilantism and the legal landscape regarding same-sex relations.
With Osazee Darlington’s current whereabouts unknown, his family continues to plead for an end to the intimidation, asserting that they should not be held responsible or targeted for the alleged private actions of their relative.
