The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police has declared one Stephen Olumese wanted after his arrested partner known as Ernest was sentenced to 10 years Imprisonment .
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command SP. Bright Yamu which was made available to journalists in Benin City said the Command recorded victory in the prosecution of Ernest after he was reportedly caught in the act of same-sex practice with his fleeing lover Stephen Olumese in a remote hotel in Benin City on July 29 2020.
According to the statement, hearing on the case commenced shortly after comprehensive investigation into the case was concluded .
Stephen Olumese and Ernest were reportedly caught in the act by an individual who on suspicion of their secret bisexual relationship barged into the room and caught them making out as he reportedly made video recording of them in the act together with his phone, the statement added.
They both were said to have reportedly appealed to the man at the hotel to have mercy on them and not turn in the video as evidence against them as they were later assured that the video evidence would not be handed over to the relevant authorities for investigation,
The Command further stated that its operatives swung into action and arrested Ernest days after receiving report on the criminal act of the 2 males who were reportedly caught in the act of same-sex practice after a man (name withheld) turned in explicit video evidence implicating them at the hotel,.
However efforts by the Command to track Stephen Olumese down in 2024 were unsuccessful after operatives of the Command again raided his home for his arrest as he was said not to have returned after fleeing and going into hiding to evade arrest since August 2020, the statement added
Meanwhile, following the successful prosecution and conviction of Ernest while Stephen Olumese’s whereabouts remained unknown, the Command was said to have declared him wanted for gross violation of the Same-sex Marriage Prohibition Act 2014.
The statement further urged members of the general public with useful information about Stephen Olumese’s whereabouts to immediately report at any nearby police station for a handsome reward.
