The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has reaffirmed the successful restart of the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refinery, dismissing claims that the facility is not producing petroleum products.

In a press statement, signed by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, highlighted that the refinery is operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to increase output to 90%.

Olufemi said the facility currently produces a range of products daily, including 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol) through blended Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha), 900,000 liters of kerosene, 1.5 million liters of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), 2.1 million liters of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO), and additional volumes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The company emphasized that blending gasoline components, such as crack C5 from Indorama Petrochemicals, is a standard practice in refineries worldwide to meet regulatory specifications.

Olufemi, urged the public to recognize the strides made in revitalizing the country’s energy sector and to disregard malicious claims that undermine these achievements.

The restart of the refinery, long plagued by operational challenges, is seen as a significant milestone in addressing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
