BENIN CITY – Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has urged parents and guardians to take an active role in dissuading their children from joining cult groups, as part of efforts to secure a brighter and safer future for the state’s youth.
In a statement issued by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, on Tuesday, to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration, Governor Okpebholo extended heartfelt greetings to children across Edo State and Nigeria, describing them as the “true leaders of tomorrow” and “our most precious assets.”
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a nurturing environment that supports the growth, education, and protection of every child in the state. “Our children’s dreams are the blueprints for a brighter future for Edo State,” he stated. “We will continue to invest in their development, protect their rights, and nurture their talents.”
Highlighting his administration’s efforts to improve the lives of children, Governor Okpebholo pointed to major initiatives, including:
Education Reforms: The declaration of a state of emergency in public schools, alongside ongoing reconstruction and renovation projects, was cited as part of a larger effort to provide quality education in a conducive learning environment. Child Protection: The Governor emphasized the enforcement of laws to protect children from abuse and exploitation, while ensuring access to education for all. Youth Empowerment: He reiterated the government’s focus on creating opportunities for young people to thrive, while confronting challenges such as cultism and violence that endanger their future.
Governor Okpebholo called on parents, guardians, teachers, and community leaders to play active roles in guiding the youth, instilling sound moral values, and encouraging them to pursue their aspirations through education and positive engagement.
“To all Edo children, I say: embrace education, dream big, and strive for excellence,” the Governor said, assuring them of his administration’s continuous support as they work toward a successful future.
