BENIN CITY – Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, has urged residents to support Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration in the task of building a united and progressive state.

Ohonbamu made the call in a statement issued in Benin City on Tuesday to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the creation of Edo State.

He noted that unity remained the foundation for progress and development in the state.

“August 27 marks a significant milestone in the history of our great state. It’s been 34 years since Edo State was created in 1991. As we commemorate this day, we reflect on our journey, achievements, and the progress we’ve made as a people,” he stated.

The Commissioner recalled that Edo State was carved out of the defunct Bendel State on August 27, 1991, and had since grown to become a hub for culture, commerce, and innovation.

He said Governor Okpebholo was committed to sustaining gains recorded over the years by improving infrastructure, constructing the first flyover bridges in Benin City, enhancing roads, reviving transportation through the new Edo Transport Service, and strengthening public services.

According to him, the administration is also fostering economic growth by supporting local businesses, attracting investments, creating jobs, and providing a safe environment for citizens.

Ohonbamu added that the government was investing in education, healthcare, social welfare programmes, and rural electrification to attract large-scale investors to the state.

He urged residents to key into the administration’s five-point development agenda, Security, Health Care, Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Food Sufficiency, and Education (SHINE).

“This celebration reminds us of our shared history, our progress, and our collective potential. Together, we will continue to build a brighter future,” he said.

The Commissioner maintained that Governor Okpebholo would make history as development continued across the state, citing road construction, upgrading of primary healthcare centres, renovation of schools, and revival of water schemes.

He further listed the restructured Edo State Security Corps, agricultural reforms for food sufficiency, and rural electrification projects as part of the administration’s achievements.
