BENIN CITY — Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has described the forthcoming August 16 House of Representatives bye-election in Ovia Federal Constituency as “an election to show capacity,” urging constituents to turn out in large numbers for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion.

Speaking at Odibhi Town Hall, Uhiere Ward, Ovia North-East, Idahosa said the bye-election will signal the state’s political strength and commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“The Executive Governor of our dear state, my principal, Monday Okpebholo, has promised the President 2.5 million votes from Edo. That journey begins with this bye-election,” he said.

“The results you give to Omosede will unlock development. This is not a normal election, it’s one to show capacity.”

The deputy governor, leading APC leaders and the Omosede Campaign Council, stressed the importance of a wide margin of victory, urging voters to secure at least 70% of registered votes in Uhiere and 72% in Isiuwa Ward.

Idahosa highlighted the APC’s readiness to work in unity to bring meaningful development to Ovia, noting that Omosede Igbinedion represents a break from past political opposition.

“Today, I present to you your daughter with a broom, the symbol of unity, development, and progress. We must vote uniformly to attract projects at all levels,” he added while addressing supporters in NIFOR and Okokhuo communities.

At Okokhuo, Idahosa engaged women with the slogan, “Women talk to women, women understand,” reinforcing APC’s grassroots outreach strategy.

Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, addressing the crowd, said this was the first time since 2015 she was campaigning with the APC’s broom symbol.

“The umbrella is tattered, the PDP has fallen,” she declared. “Hold me accountable in a year if I do not fulfil my promises.”

She hailed the collaboration with Idahosa as a new era of inclusive politics, pledging to work in alignment with the state government to fast-track development in Ovia Federal Constituency.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, praised Omosede’s past contributions and described the Idahosa-Omosede alliance as a chance to elevate grassroots development.

The APC campaign team also visited Iyowa Community, where they paid a courtesy call to Hon. Etiosa Ighodaro at his residence.
