The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the temporary withdrawal of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates due to technical issues discovered during an internal review.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, and signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the Council disclosed that the problem emerged from a new innovation aimed at curbing examination malpractice.

According to WAEC, the Council had introduced a paper serialization method, a security measure previously deployed by a national examination body, in key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

“While this move aligns with international best practices in assessment and was intended to enhance the integrity of our examinations, our internal post-result release procedure has revealed some technical bugs in the published results,” the statement read.

In response, WAEC has temporarily disabled access to the results on its online result checker portal to allow for urgent review and correction of the errors.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause and extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public,” the statement continued. “WAEC remains a responsive body, committed to fairness and professionalism.”

The Council assured stakeholders that the issue is being treated with the utmost urgency and transparency, with corrections expected to be completed within the next 24 hours.

Candidates who have already checked their results are advised to recheck after 24 hours, while those attempting to access their results are urged to remain patient.

WAEC reiterated its dedication to upholding excellence and integrity in its assessment processes and thanked Nigerians for their continued trust and confidence.
